Eric Whitacre to make his Melbourne debut

Grammy Award winning composer Eric Whitacre will make his Melbourne concert debut this Saturday, April 13.
Best known for his choral works, the Nevada-born conductor and composer has written for the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Philharmonia Orchestra, Julian Lloyd Webber and is known for his Virtual Choir projects. His Lux Aurumque Virtual Choir performance featured 185 singers from 12 countries and has been viewed more than three million times while his Virtual Choir 2, Sleep, featured more than 2000 voices from 58 countries.
His debut album as a composer and conductor, Light & Gold, signified his emergence as one of the world’s most popular modern composers, hitting the number one position on the classical album charts in the US and the UK and winning Whitacre a Grammy in the process. His second album, Water Night, was released last year.
Eric Whitacre will perform with the Monash Sinfonia, Melbourne’s Choir of Trinity College and cellist David Berlin at Monash University’s Robert Blackwood Hall on Saturday, April 13. Aside from the concert, Whitacre will also hold a public choir workshop at Monash University’s Academy of Performing Arts on Friday, April 12.
