Folk in Brunswick
March 2013
The Brunswick Music Festival, one of Australia’s most successful folk, acoustic and roots festivals, celebrates a quarter of a century with an international and national line-up of eclectic artists.
Australia’s only inner-city folk, roots and world music festival, the 12-day Brunswick Music Festival features 28 concerts in five venues over the two weeks. Artists performing at the 25th festival, which starts on March 13 and concludes on March 24, include Irish folk legends such as Andy Irvine, Paul Brady and Australian performers such as Archie Roach and Eric Bogle.
Beginning in 1989, the Brunswick Music Festival is held in the council district of Moreland every year with the event and the Sydney Road Street Party generating an estimated $2.5 million for the Moreland community every year.
The program kicks off with Go Jane Go and Meyhane performing on March 13 at the Spotted Mallard and Mechanics Institute respectively and concludes on March 24 with Andy Irvine performing at Estonian House, The Big Ball in Brunswick at the Spotted Mallard and Mike Cooper performing a live soundtrack to the screening of the classic 1931 silent film Tabu at the Mechanics Institute.
The Brunswick Music Festival runs from March 13 to 24.
