Into The Woods – Back in Melbourne for a limited season

Ahead of Into the Woods’ Hollywood debut later this year, the Victorian Opera is holding a limited season of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s show, which is an adult take on fairy tales in July, casting Queenie van de Zandt for the iconic role to be played by Meryl Streep.

Taking on the role of the Witch, originally made famous by Bernadette Peters, and who will be played by Streep in the film, Queenie will appear in Melbourne’s first professional staging of Into the Woods in more than 15 years.

Sondheim recently told Streep, “Don’t fuck it up”, and the Victorian Opera took note when casting Queenie who was last seen in the world premiere of King Kong Live on Stage as the mad fortune-teller, Cassandra.
